The Pelicans mascot is far less terrifying now

When the New Orleans NBA franchise decided to change its nickname from the Hornets to the Pelicans this offseason, it came with a mascot change.

The reaction to the new mascot before the start of the season was succinct: “Pierre the Pelican” is frightening to children and adults alike.

This pretty much sums it up:

Instead of hiding from the PR nightmare, the team turned it into a mildly amusing plot. Pierre suffered an injury playing pickup basketball against his fellow mascots and needed plastic surgery (and more fur?).
