Derek Jeter applauded on way into work this morning

TAMPA — Derek Jeter rolled in to the Yankees minor league complex shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, just as he typically does this time of year.

The only indication he made his stunning retirement announcement Wednesday was a round of applause from the autograph seekers on the sidewalk.

Jeter later was asked whether he felt good about his decision to call it quits after the 2014 season.

“I do,” he said. “I’ll address it all over there when we get there next week.”

Jeter arrived a few minutes after rookie Japanese right-hander Masahiro Tanaka.

Tanaka threw a 23-pitch bullpen session to catcher Francisco Cervelli for his first mound action as a Yankee. He had worked out at the facility Wednesday following his jam-packed introductory press conference in The Bronx on Tuesday.

Jeter said he met Tanaka, but didn’t see him throw.
