Former NY DJ indicted on sex charge

Former WNEW disc jockey Dave Herman has been indicted in New Jersey on a charge of attempting to transport a 7-year-old girl to the US Virgin Islands for sex, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.

A defense lawyer said Herman, 77, was interested only in whom he thought was the girl’s 36-year-old mother. But Herman’s lawyer has said his client only engaged in banter about the child because he was interested in the mother.

He was arrested in October and remains jailed without bond.

Herman was a rock ’n’ roll disc jockey at WNEW in New York. He faces a life sentence if convicted.

Authorities have said Herman thought he was communicating with a 36-year-old single mother with a young daughter, and tried in multiple telephone and online conversations to arrange illegal sexual encounters with the child.
