Knicks check out Dahntay Jones for open roster spot

Dahntay Jones may be the perimeter defender the Knicks seek with two roster spots open.

Jones’ agent, Mark Bartelstein, confirmed the Knicks brought in his client for a morning workout. The Knicks have two roster spots available after buyouts for Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih.

“We’ve been talking to a number of teams,” Bartelstein said. “They worked him out this morning. It sounds like it went very well.”

The Knicks and Bartelstein were expected to talk again late Tuesday.

Knicks coach Mike Woodson said Monday he would meet with brass Tuesday and targeted two specific areas:

“If we can find a guy that can defend a little bit at the perimeter spot, that would help. And maybe another big…”

Jones, 33, is a 6-foot-6 veteran who entered the league in 2003. He has played with Memphis, Sacramento, Denver (where he teamed with Carmelo Anthony), Indiana, Dallas and Atlanta. He was released during the preseason by the Bulls.

Another potential acquisition, according to a Yahoo! Sports report, is forward Earl Clark, who recently was released by the 76ers after a trade from the Cavaliers. The 6-foot-10 Clark, a New Jersey native who attended Louisville, has career averages of 4.5 points and 3.1 rebounds.
