33 couples wed in emotional Grammys climax

Legendary queen of pop Madonna took the stage with two Grammy faves, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis Sunday night as 33 couples got married amid their performance.

Joined by Mary Lambert, Trombone Shorty and a gospel choir, the indie rap star, his trusty sidekick and her Madgesty spout out a heartfelt rendition of the gay rights anthem, “Same Love.”

But though their performance of the “Thrift Shop” duo’s song was at once poignant and entertaining, it was what happened in the aisles that stole the show.

Queen Latifah officiated the live wedding of 33 separate couples during the song. The couples varied from same-sex to heterosexual, as well as in age and race. According to the New York Times, Lewis’ sister Laura was among those married.

Madonna then took over with a slow jam of her classic, “Open Your Heart,” dressed in a very Loretta Lynn get-up. To conclude, Madonna joined up with Lambert to finish out the “Same Love” chorus.
