Driver busted for turning thruway into personal 144 mph racetrack

COEYMANS, N.Y. — State police say a 21-year-old Yonkers man faces multiple charges after driving his Acura Integra 144 mph along the state Thruway and refusing to stop for police.

Police said Wednesday that Pedro Ramirez-Cuebas III was driving on I-87 at 9:43 p.m. Friday in Coeymans, about 10 miles south of Albany.

When troopers tried to top him, police say he sped north, weaving in and out of traffic and turning his headlights on and off.

He was taken into custody when he was forced to stop at the Exit 24 toll plaza in Albany.

He was charged with felony first-degree reckless endangerment, fleeing a police officer and possession of marijuana.

Ramirez-Cuebas was arraigned and sent to the Albany County jail to await further action in the Coeymans Town Court.
