Christie: ‘Bridgegate’ is not a ‘real’ problem

Bridgegate is not a “real” problem, Gov. Chris Christie said after a town hall meeting in New Jersey on Thursday.

No one asked about the George Washington Bridge lane closings during the 90-minute Q&A in Middletown, but on the way out Washington Post reporter Robert Costa posed the question.

“Christie glared at me, shook head and said ‘People care about REAL problems,’ then left building,” Costa tweeted.

Earlier Christie had to pass a gauntlet of anti-Christie signs to reach the town hall — they read “Time for some caucus problems in Iowa,” “What if the woman stuck in the ambulance was your mother?” and “Hey gov: Bruce Springsteen hates you!”

Inside the hall one woman held up a “Resign Christie” sign in the otherwise very friendly audience of 400+ people.

A woman alluded to his weight, saying: “You’re looking good.”

“Getting there” he replied and then said a middle school girl recently told him “You’re getting a lot smaller.” Then the girl asked “When are you going to get really small?”

“Well, my dear, Rome was not unbuilt in a day,” he said he told her.

Most of the town hall questions were about Superstorm Sandy recovery, and Christie blamed the Obama Administration for aid delays.

“I’m not the king of New Jersey. I’m just the governor,” he said.
