The buzz around Tinseltown isn’t all Oscar movie talk.
Rumors are swirling that ABC News boss Ben Sherwood could be in for some additional responsibilities as a reward for pulling off the once unthinkable — ABC’s “Good Morning America” toppling the “Today” show to jump into the No. 1 slot for mornings.
While Sherwood recently signed a new deal to remain news chief, insiders are whispering he could get additional responsibilities.
Alexander Payne’s movie, “Nebraska,” is filmed in black-and-white, and features several depressing-looking bars in even drearier rural towns.
The story of a son trying to connect with an aged father and cranky mother led one studio higher-up to quip: “If I were the state of Nebraska, I’d sue.”
Whatever number of awards “Gravity” pulls down at the Oscars on Sunday night, it has already taken home one of the best: Best Performance at the Box Office.
The movie, starring Sandra Bullock as an astronaut who rescues herself from outer space has racked up $269.4 million in US ticket sales since its October release.

Last year, “Lincoln”was tops at the box office at $176.8 million. This year only four films of the nine nominated for Best Picture crossed the $100 million mark domestically, according to boxofficemojo.com—“American Hustle” at $144 million, “Captain Phillips” at $106 million and “The Wolf of Wall Street” at $113 million are the other three — compared to six films last year.
