3 injured in Staten Island gas explosion

A gas explosion caused a fire to erupt in a Staten Island home, seriously injuring two residents and one firefighter, FDNY said.

The flames started moments after the fire department recieved a call for an odor of gas to the Dongan Hills home on Delaware Street and Overlook Avenue around 5 p.m., officials said.

Two residents were seriously injured in the blaze and were sent to Staten Island North Hospital. A fire fighter is also seriously injured.

Homes within a three-block radius of the explosion have been evacuated, and MTA buses have been summoned in to keep the displaced residents warm, a FDNY spokesperson said.

Carbon Monoxide levels are being tested in the surrounding area, officials said.
