Ex-Bronx prez Carrion to endorse Espaillat’s bid to unseat Rangel

Former White house aide and Bronx borough President Adolfo Carrion today will endorse Adriano Espaillat’s bid to unseat veteran Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel.

Carrion, the Bronx beep from 2002 to 2009, served as President Obama’s Director of Urban Affairs and Regional Director of the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Carrion is the second major Bronx Latino power broker to abandon Rangel and back Espaillat, the state senator from Washington Heights.

Former mayoral candidate and ex-Bronx beep Fernando Ferrer also supports Espaillat.

The Latino vote will be key in determining whether 21-term incumbent Rangel survives or is toppled. Hispanics make up a majority in the redrawn 13th congressional district.

Current Bronx borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. is sticking with Rangel.

Carrion will make his support of Espaillat official at a 2 p.m. press conference at City Hall.
