‘MELROSE’ FOR SALE: THIS POOL WATER’S JUST $300

FOX’s “Melrose Place” ends its storied run tonight (8 p.m. on Ch.5) after seven seasons of infidelity, back-stabbing and greed.

Who wouldn’t want to own a piece of that kind of history?

That’s why Amazon.com, the website, is staging the ultimate TV garage sale, auctioning off props, costumes and memorabilia from the “Melrose Place” set – everything from fiery Amanda Woodward’s headboard to Lexi Sterling’s lingerie to Jake Hanson’s dusty boots.

Internet bidding on more than 200 items has been going on since last week, with final bids due by Thursday. The proceeds, which could easily top $100,000, will go to charity.

The most popular items so far are those that belonged to the show’s most popular character, Amanda, the short-tempered temptress played by Heather Locklear.

The scrolled headboard from Amanda’s bed had drawn a bid of more than $3,000 over the weekend, as had a set of her queen-size leopard sheets.

Three original green apartment doors from the “Melrose Place” courtyard – the most-often slmamed doors in modern TV history – have so far attracted bids up to $765.

Sydney’s size 8 wedding dress, designed by Yumi Katsura, was only worn once – that time she was run over and killed on her wedding day. Complete with tire marks, the dress is so far going to a bidder in the $600 range.

“Right after the final episode tonight we’ll be hosting a special auction of items from the very last episode,” said Amazon.com spokeswoman Sharon Greenspan. “It might even include some special items signed by the cast.”

Greenspan said Amazon.com organized the 200-item auction in conjunction with Spelling Television and Artists Direct, which handles most of Spelling TV’s online projects.

“We’re very pleased with the enthusiastic response it’s generated,” Greenspan said.

Already, something of a black market in “MP” memorabilia has begun.

Earlier this month, Fox sent out samples of “MP” pool water – encased in a clear plastic snows globes – to journalists and stations to hype tonight’s finale.

This week, some of those globes started showing up on ebay, the other online auction site, attracting bids of over $300.
