BIKE-BASH VIDEO COP IS INDICTED

A rookie cop has been indicted on charges of viciously knocking a cyclist off his bike during a Times Square demonstration in July, authorities said yesterday.

Patrick Pogan, 22, was indicted last week on a misdemeanor charge of assault and a felony count of filing a false report in the July 25 attack on Christopher Long, 29, of Bloomfield, NJ, sources said.

Pogan, who had been on the force only three weeks when the incident happened, is expected to surrender today to the Manhattan district attorney.

Long’s attorney, David Rankin, confirmed the indictment.

“We’re obviously very excited that the district attorney has taken this matter seriously,” he said.

Councilman David Yassky (D-Brooklyn) called Pogan’s behavior “way out of line,” saying he “let the rest of the [NYPD] down.”

Stuart London, Pogan’s lawyer, said his client “denies that he committed any misconduct.”

He said a video of the incident “can be misleading because it doesn’t show the bicyclist’s reckless behavior prior to the officer’s taking action.”
