SCHWARZMAN PLANS LOW-KEY BIRTHDAY

BILLIONAIRE Steve Schwarz man says he likes to live life intensely.

But his birthday celebration this year, which is on Valentine’s Day, will be anything but intense. The Blackstone chief became the poster boy for overpaid private equity execs after throwing an over-the-top 60th birthday for himself last year at The Park Avenue Armory.

This year’s party won’t include a guest list of New York celebs and Wall Street honchos or Rod Stewart singing his favorite tunes. Sources say Schwarzman plans to celebrate his 61st birthday with a low-key evening at home with his family and a few friends.

Deny, deny

If Nick Leeson, the noted early rogue trader, who brought down Barings Bank in 1995 with $1.4 billion in losses, is upset that he lost the dubious crown of the most famous trader bad boy, he’s not showing it.

“I tell you what, I have an awful lot going on, so I don’t need to be focusing on that, all right,” he told The Post last week when contacted at his office at the Galway United Football Club, in Ireland, which he now runs.

Leeson, who fetches some $10,000 for after-dinner speeches, told The Post he had not even seen the comments he made to a BBC broadcaster nor is he planning on seeking them out.
