Marketeer, weekly circular serving Brooklyn, folds

Newsday’s Marketeer, a weekly circular, has ceased publication, leaving tens of thousands of Brooklyn households without their weekly advertising bargains.

The shopper, which had 16 editions in Brooklyn, as well as 10 in Queens and nine in Staten Island, went out of business on December 15.

Around for more than 20 years, the Marketeer had a strong presence in many Brooklyn neighborhoods including Mill Basin, Midwood, Sheepshead Bay and Bensonhurst.

Newsday bought the Marketeer from Larry Ross during the late 1990s. It belonged to the media company’s Star Community Publishing Group, a publisher of local shoppers and community papers in Long Island and in other parts of the Northeast.

Requests for comment from Newsday were unable to be returned by press time.
