NJ LAWYER DISBARRED

TRENTON, N.J. — A lawyer who won judgments for Holocaust survivors and victims of South African apartheid has been disbarred in a second state.

The New Jersey Supreme Court agreed that Edward Fagan knowingly misused client and escrow trust funds.

He was disbarred in New York in December for similar offenses.

Last week, Fagan told New Jersey’s Supreme Court that he did not misappropriate any client money. He did not deny that he had taken more than $80,000 from a Holocaust survivor. But he said he was entitled to that money for legal work.

Fagan got international attention in the 1990s for his work for Holocaust survivors.

In 1998, he got Swiss banks to settled with thousands of survivors for $1.25 billion.
