WOMAN DIES IN 3-CAR ACCIDENT ON NY THRUWAY

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — A 25-year-old woman died in a three-vehicle accident that shut down the northbound lanes of the Thruway in the Hudson Valley for almost six hours.

State police say a car driven by Sarah Studler of Pleasant Valley was stopped in traffic when it was hit by an SUV at around 2:25 a.m. Friday in Saugerties (SAW’-ger-teez), 40 miles south of Albany.

Studler’s car was spun sideways and then broadsided by another vehicle.

Troopers say Studler was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two drivers suffered injuries that aren’t life threatening.

The crash shut down both lanes between exits 20 and 21. The left lane reopened around 8 a.m., followed by the right lane about 45 minutes later.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
