FERRY ‘SLIP’UP POWER PROBE

Investigators are probing the failure of all four transformers that caused a Staten Island Ferry boat to lose power and ram the St. George terminal, officials said yesterday.

Veteran Capt. Joseph Faure, who passed an alcohol screening, called all passengers inside from the outdoor decks and masterfully guided the craft into the terminal Wednesday evening despite power going out for the final 25 seconds, said ferry-service chief James DeSimone.

There were only 15 injuries, mostly minor.

“This was a mechanical problem” and not a human error, DeSimone said.
