PALISADES CENTER REPLACES HISTORIC CAROUSEL

WEST NYACK, N.Y. — A suburban New York mall has replaced a historic merry-go-round with a doubler-decker model.

The 101-year-old carousel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was removed two months ago after 11 years at the Palisades Center in Rockland County. It featured handmade carvings of animals and cherubs.

The mall says the replacement was built in Venice, Italy, in the style of the 1800s.

It will formally open to the public on Saturday.
