Boss sets sights on 27th title

He might be in the background these days but George Steinbrenner still believes winning the World Series is always the Yankees’ ultimate goal.

With the Yankees on the verge of opening the best-of-five ALDS against the Twins or Tigers, The Boss released a statement yesterday reminding his high-priced AL East champions that a 27th World Series title is the focus.

“We look forward to finishing what we started this season and never losing sight of our goal — to bring another championship to the best fans in the world and the great city of New York,” said The Boss, who will not be on hand for the first round but is contemplating a trip to The Bronx should the Yankees advance.

“This has been a tremendous year for our team as we have settled into our new home. The New York Yankees are proud of our rich history of outstanding players and this year’s team has worked hard to prove that they are worthy of the great distinction of calling themselves Yankees,” Steinbrenner said.
