A thief stole the fancy holiday hat off a Hasidic man’s head on Oct. 2.
The victim was walking from synagogue at around 9:30 pm and was near Wallabout Street and Throop Avenue when two young men approached him from behind. One of them lifted the man’s shtreimel, a fur hat with a $1,200 price tag, then both ran off.
Sad faces
A thief turned a smile upside down when he robbed Happy Faces flower store on Grand Street.
The store was doing business as usual on Oct. 3 when the felon entered, posing as a customer. He said he needed flowers for an anniversary present, and the woman working at the store was happy to comply. At 7:30 pm, near closing time, she went into the back to cut some stems for the special bouquet. When she emerged, ready to show off her creation, the man was gone. Not only that, but the fake flower buyer had taken a purse containing all of the day’s earnings, nearly $8,000.
Hateful skater
A skater on Berry Street beat a man over the head with his board on Oct. 1, showing aggression that far surpassed teenage angst.
The victim was driving his Honda Odyssey near Broadway at around 10:45 pm, but couldn’t get through the intersection because the skateboarding teen was doing trick in the street.
“Move over,” the man yelled out his window, but instead of yielding the right of way, the skater struck the man’s van with his skateboard. And his skate rage didn’t stop there. When the victim got out to inspect the damage and call for help, the skater boy hit him in the face with his board, knocking his phone from his hand and breaking it.
Cut!
A burglar made off with some A/V equipment from a Manhattan Avenue house, completely ruining a filmmaker’s artistic vision on Sept. 29.
The victim, a young woman, left her apartment, which is near Meserole Street, to get coffee. She came back alert and ready for her day, but all of the tools of her trade were missing. The thief must have scaled the side of the building and entered through the unlocked balcony to take a MacBook Pro, a video camera and an expensive microphone.
Trophy Bar thief
A mugger emptied a man’s pockets outside of Trophy Bar on Oct. 4.
The victim was walking away from the Broadway bar at around 2:35 am, after a night of drinking when a thug with braided hair came up to him near Keap Street, as though to start a conversation.
“I don’t know who you’re with, but give me what you got or I’m gonna shoot you,” said the perp. Unfortunately, the victim was alone. He handed over $20, all that was left after a night filled with $5 PBRs.
The crook also got the man’s iPhone.
