COURTS’ RESPECT FOR OLD GLORY IS FLAGGING

How about a little respect for the flag, Your Honor!

As the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day this weekend, Old Glory is being improperly displayed in nearly two dozen Manhattan courtrooms, The Post has learned.

The ignominious insult to our country’s foremost symbol of freedom comes despite federal law specifying exactly how the Stars and Stripes should be shown in public.

According to the Flag Code, Old Glory should be positioned “at the . . . speaker’s right as he faces the audience.”

But a Post inspection of the courthouses revealed several examples of improper placement.

The most violations were found inside Manhattan Supreme Court at 60 Centre St., where flags stood on the wrong side of judges’ benches in six courtrooms and were incorrectly positioned directly behind jurists’ chairs in two others.

The next worst violator was Manhattan federal court, where Old Glory was on the wrong side in six courtrooms, and two courtrooms had no flag at all.
