Just weeks after announcing their surprise reunion, Bristol Palin’s engagement to Levi Johnston was thrown into doubt Friday, as rumors surfaced that his ex may be pregnant with his child.
Sarah Palin’s daughter, 19, was said to be reconsidering her future with Johnston after a report emerged in the National Enquirer this week.
The U.S. tabloid claimed that Lanesia Garcia became pregnant after a brief reunion with Johnston, 20, during his break-up from Bristol Palin last year.
Garcia, who is about to give birth to the child, reportedly told a source Johnston was one of a number of possible fathers to be determined using a paternity test.
A rep for the Palin family told celebrity website RadarOnline Friday that “no official decision has been made,” about whether Bristol Palin will stay with Johnston, but added that the couple were currently in contact “by text message” only.
Regardless of its truth, the baby rumor is unlikely to impress former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
The leading Republican had a tempestuous relationship with Johnston since he and Bristol Palin called off their first engagement, two weeks after the birth of their son Tripp in December 2008.
When the couple announced their reunion in Us Weekly magazine earlier this month, she reacted with caution, saying: “We obviously want what is best for our children, but Bristol is ultimately in charge of determining what is best for her and her beautiful son.”
“We got engaged two weeks ago,” Bristol Palin said at the time. “It felt right, even though we don’t have the approval of our parents.”
