RULAND LANDS COACHING JOB

Former Iona coach Jeff Ruland will be introduced today as the new head coach at the University of the District of Columbia, where he will oversee a dramatic transformation in the university’s program from the Division II to the Division I level.

“This is a great opportunity and I’m very excited about working with college student athletes and helping UDC make this commitment to athletics a success,” Ruland told The Post last night. “It’s not going to happen overnight, but it is going to happen and it’s going to happen the right way.”

Ruland was an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers after coaching the Albuquerque Thunderbirds of the NBA’s D-League. Ruland took Iona, his alma mater, to three MAAC championships, three 20-win seasons and three NCAA Tournament appearances.
