Cuomo trouncing Paladino in governor’s race: poll

Andrew Cuomo (Helayne Seidman)

Andrew Cuomo is cruising to a landslide victory for governor over Carl Paladino as the candidates trade shots down the stretch, the latest poll shows.

The Siena College survey of 603 likely voters had Cuomo besting Paladino 58-33, with 6 percent undecided and a margin of error of 4 points.

“Cuomo leads in every region of the state. He’s getting a significant share of even Republican votes. He’s viewed favorably overwhelmingly by voters,” Siena pollster Steven Greenberg said. “No matter how you slice the numbers, Cuomo has a seemingly invincible lead.”

DISPATCHES FROM THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL

Cuomo, the state’s Democratic attorney general, enjoyed a 78-15 advantage over Paladino, a wealthy Buffalo businessman, among city residents.

Meanwhile, the two candidates rallied voters from Yonkers to Staten Island yesterday.

“It’s about time we clean up Albany and we have state officials who remember they’re elected by the people,” Cuomo shouted during a stop on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

The candidates took shots at each other, with Cuomo accusing his rival of insulting gay and low-income New Yorkers and pitting upstate and downstate residents against each other.

Paladino, meanwhile, passed out black and orange bags of campaign literature with the Halloween-themed slogan, “Cuomo Scares Me,” at a breakfast meeting of the Yonkers Republican City Committee.

“Cuomo is the poster child for everything that is wrong in New York,” Paladino said.

“My opponent wants to cap the rate of spending and taxes. How does that create jobs?”
