Countdown to the Breeders’ Cup: Long shots

The Post will profile each of the eight Breeders’ Cup races to be run Saturday at Churchill Downs. The Countdown to the Cup spotlights potential nice-price winners as handicapped by reporter Ed Fountaine and columnist Ray Kerrison. Good luck.

ANALYSIS: Ever since Chief’s Crown won the inaugural running of the Juvenile at 3-5 back in 1984, favorites have dominated this race and there’s no reason to think it will be any different this year.

Form lines suggest it is a three-horse race between Todd Pletcher’s duo, Uncle Mo, the Champagne blockbuster, and Stay Thirsty, an unlucky second in the Hopeful, and Rick Dutrow’s hot number, Boys At Tosconova. All the rest are at double digits.

The trick horses are Jaycito, J.B.’s Thunder, J P’s Gusto and Riveting Reason, all coming off synthetic tracks, Biondetti, a grass colt in from Italy, and Murjan, an unbeaten Peru monster.

LIVE LONG SHOTS: Biondetti hails from the powerful Godolphin racing empire, and is unbeaten in three starts on grass in England and Italy, the latter a Grade 1 stake over a mile. If Stay Thirsty goes at 15-1 as morning line suggests, he’s worth a wager.

THE BET: Uncle Mo appears the 2-year-old of the season, and he can wrap up an Eclipse award with a big win here. Mo’s the Go. Forget the rest.
