Jets report card

OFFENSE

Mark Sanchez (22-of-39, 1 TD, 1 INT) threw for a career-high 336 yards. He connected with WR Braylon Edwards (3 rec., 78 yards) on a 74-yard TD pass late in the second quarter, but threw a terrible INT into the Detroit end zone in the third quarter. Santonio Holmes caught five passes for 114 yards. On the negative side, Edwards lost a fumble, TE Dustin Keller and WR Jerricho Cotchery each had a dropped pass in the second quarter and the Jets’ running game (110 yards on 30 carries) was sluggish. C

DEFENSE

The run defense was stout, allowing 78 yards on 28 carries. But there were too many plays given up in the passing game (Matthew Stafford was 20-of-36 for 240 yards before getting hurt late). There, too, were way too many penalties (seven on defense). CB Drew Coleman had a bad game, allowing a 2-yard TD pass and several other big plays. CB Darrelle Revis nearly shut out Lions top WR Calvin Johnson (1 catch, 13 yards). B

BOX SCORE

SPECIAL TEAMS

Biggest plays of the game came from K Nick Folk, who kicked a 36-yard game-tying field goal as time expired in regulation and then a 30-yard game-winner. The Jets were so-so in kick coverage against Stefan Logan (28.8-yard average on KOs, 13.5-yard average on punts). B

COACHING

The Jets were forced to burn two timeouts on defense in the fourth quarter because of personnel confusion near the goal line, leaving them with one timeout while trailing by 10. Rex Ryan praised Brian Schottenheimer for his play calling late in the game and OT. B
