$40 million penthouse is on top

The most expensive condo in the city is a Central Park West penthouse that a mystery buyer plans to purchase for $40 million, The Post has learned.

It’s the highest-priced residential real estate in the Big Apple at a record $10,259 a square foot.

The posh pad is on the 41st floor of 15 Central Park West, a building developed by real-estate mogul William Zeckendorf and his brother Arthur for rich actors, sports and rock stars and financial bigwigs.

The last time anyone came close to spending as much per square foot was in 2008, when Bolat Nazarbaev, brother of the president of Kazakhstan, paid $20.1 million for a 1,980-square-foot apartment at The Plaza.

The 3,899-square-foot Central Park West apartment has three bedrooms, 3½ baths, a living room, a dining room and a family room.

Other residents of the building include Sting, A-Rod and Kelsey Grammer.

It’s also home to moguls like former Citigroup head Sandy Weill and hedge-funder Dan Ochs.

William Zeckendorf, who currently lives in the apartment, did not return calls. He bought the penthouse from his own company for $10.7 million in 2005 during its pre-construction stage.
