Kid stuff

TodayMaster of magic: He’s not Dumbledore, but Justin the Magician has some pretty cool tricks up his sleeve, and he’s performing at Bryant Park Reading Room for free as part of the Word for Word Kids series. Noon to 1 p.m. Bryant Park, 42nd Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues; 212-768-4242.

TomorrowVive la France: Yet another Independence Day is upon us, this time the French version. Instead of fireworks, celebrate Bastille Day at an annual block party where there’ll be petanque contests for kids, cancan girls, face painting, crepes, eclairs and plenty of wine and cheese for Mere et Pere. Noon to 6 p.m., free (bring cash for food). East 60th Street between Fifth and Lexington avenues; bastilledaynyc.com.

Shine a light: There’s nothing better than a rock band for kids that can make grown-ups laugh, and with tunes like “The Tofurkey Song” and “Mosquitoes,” Joanie Leeds and the Nightlights pull it off. Catch them at the Jewish Museum to hear your favorites from CDs “City Kid” and “What a Zoo!” 2 p.m.; $16 for adults, $11 for kids. 1109 Fifth Ave., at 92nd Street; 212-423-3200.

I am the walrus: It’s fitting that a double reading of new kids’ titles “Where’s Walrus?” and “Along a Long Road” is at DUMBO’s powerHouse Arena, as the illustrators appearing — Stephen Savage and Frank Viva, respectively — are award-winning powerhouses in the art world. Pick up copies to be signed while you’re there. 4 to 5 p.m. 37 Main St., corner of Water and Main streets, Brooklyn; 718-666-3049.

Still to come

Party on: Kids’ music big Laurie Berkner celebrates the release of her new CD, “Party Day!,” July 16 at Town Hall. We’re giving you a heads-up now, as tickets may go fast. 11 a.m.; $27.50 and $37.50. 123 W. 43rd St., between Sixth and Seventh avenues; 212-307-7171.
