Bernie bashed by goon in prison

Bernie Madoff’s investors aren’t the only ones who hate his guts.

The world’s biggest Ponzi scammer was assaulted by a fellow prisoner and ended up in the hospital last December, The Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site.

Madoff who’s serving a 150-year sentence at the Butler, NC, federal prison, suffered a busted nose, fractured ribs and cuts to his head and face, an inmate told the paper.

Another inmate and a third source also told the Journal that Madoff had been assaulted, even though officials denied it shortly after he was sent to the hospital for a four-day stay on Dec. 18.

The official account at the time was that the $65 billion swindler was suffering from dizziness and hypertension.

Prison officials also denied a report that Madoff, 71, had fallen out of bed.

But the real culprit was a beefy man doing time for a drug conviction, a former inmate told the Journal.

The Bureau of Prisons said it interviewed Madoff about the incident.

“In December, he told staff he was not assaulted, and an investigation was completed following his statements, which corroborated his statements,” said Traci Billingsley, a bureau spokeswoman.

Madoff’s lawyer, Ira Sorkin, also wouldn’t confirm the incident happened.
