Paterson rescinds controversial raises for key aides

ALBANY – Easy come, easy go.

Gov. Paterson’s top spokesman said this morning that the administration would reverse the decision to give promotions and raises to five Executive Chamber employees.

“We’re not going to let this become a distraction,” Paterson Communications Director Morgan Hook said during an interview with The Post Fred Dicker on WGDJ 1300-AM. “We’re going to do what is not the right thing and pull back these promotions.”

Hook added to the announcement a request on members of the Public Employees Federation and the Civil Service Employees Association to give back scheduled pay hikes of four to seven percent this year.

“If we’re going to pull back these promotions, we’re calling on them to not take a pay raise,” Hook said.
