Avonte kin awaiting DNA match

The family of Avonte Oquendo will know by Wednesday whether DNA from body parts washed up on a beach in northern Queens is a match to their tragic missing child, a family lawyer told reporters Saturday.

“It’s not looking great,” said the lawyer, David Perecman, given that clothing recovered from the decomposed remains match the striped shirt, jeans and Nike sneakers Avonte was wearing when he vanished on Oct. 4 after wandering from his school in Long Island City, Queens.

Cops reported that teeth and additional remains continued to wash up on Saturday in College Point.

Until the DNA is conclusive, family members are holding out hope that Avonte still lives, the lawyer said.

“It’s not Avonte until the DNA evidence comes in and says it is,” Perecman said of the missing 14-year-old autistic boy.
