Report: Marbury says Heat reached out to him

South Beach or Shanxi?

Stephon Marbury told a Chinese newspaper that he passed on an opportunity to play with the Heat and is considering heading back to China, where he played last season.

“They (the Heat) wanted a point guard,” the former Knicks guard told the People’s Daily Online of China. “But I don’t think a point guard would do much in the team as they’ve already had the Three Guys (Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh).”

With Miami’s Big Three eating up most of the team’s salary cap the Heat have filled out their roster with players willing to sign for the veteran’s minimum looking to come along for a chance at an NBA Championship. So, there certainly is a possibility that the Heat made the call.

But Marbury said that he is likely to head back to China, where he was a member of the Shanxi Zhongyu last year.

“There is 90 percent chance that I’ll play in CBA (Chinese Basketball Association) if I play overseas,” Marbury said.
