List of NYC hoops all-stars going to Turkey chosen

The list of 11 players selected to compete on a New York City all-star team traveling to Turkey during the FIBA World Championships was released Monday night, assistant coach Bernard Bowen told The Post.

The squad will include St. Raymond’s Daniel Dingle, Christ the King’s Corey Edwards, Jefferson’s Tyquan Goodlett, Moussa Kone of FDA III, Lincoln’s Kamari Murphy, St. Raymond’s Kerwin Okoro, South Kent’s Derrick Randall, Cardozo’s Ryan Rhoomes, Jevon Thomas of St. Benedict’s and Rice’s Jermaine Sanders.

Contrary to other reports, Boys & Girls star guard Mike Taylor will make the trip overseas with the group. Oak Hill Academy’s Sidiki Johnson will play with the team in an exhibition Friday night against a team from China, but he will not make the trip to Turkey.

“It’s always tough [to pick a team like this] — it’s New York City,” Bowen said. “Coach Kimani Young wanted to go with guys who were ready to play hard, put their egos aside and represent New York. We wanted to put together a good team of humble, hungry guys and take advantage of a good experience. Ninety percent of these kids have never been out of the country.”

The team will be coached by New Heights athletic director Kimani Young. Bowen and former Seton Hall director of basketball operations Dennis Kazimir will be the assistants. The team will be in Turkey from Aug. 28 to Sept. 3 competing in exhibition games with youth national teams from other countries.

“We get to represent our city, represent New York, show them what we’re capable of doing,” Goodlett said. … “It means a lot to me. It feels like I accomplished something.”

The festivities, which are part of the World Basketball Festival, begin Friday with the Battle of the Boroughs at Rucker Park. At 3 p.m., all-stars from The Bronx meet their counterparts from Brooklyn and at 5 p.m. the teams from Queens and Manhattan face off. The all-star team going to Turkey plays China following those two games Friday night and the Battle of the Boroughs championship is set for 4:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

“It’s an honor,” Taylor said. “It’s like a baby USA team and we’ll be there with the real USA team, all the NBA guys. It’s going to be an incredible experience.”
