Trick & eat

Twix aren’t just for kids. In fact, neither is Halloween, a day when dressing up can be scary and gorging on candy oh-so-sweet. Going door-to-door in search of a sugar buzz, however, is often reserved for tykes. Lucky for grown-ups, there’s still a way to get a buzz on, as citywide chefs are taking inspiration from candy collected on Halloween, and using it to create deliciously adult drinks and desserts.

“A lot of candy can be really junky: candy corn, artificially sour candies. The flavors are too sweet for a dessert,” says Zac Young, pastry chef at Flex Mussels and current contestant on Bravo’s “Top Chef: Just Desserts.” To counter that, Young and other cooks are using beloved Halloween candy in dishes, but adding other things, too. It’s a nifty trick . . . that results in a sweet treat.
