Suspect arrested in East Village rape

Police have arrested a man in the rape of a woman in the East Village, sources said.

Fermin Flores, 32, was picked up Tuesday and taken to the Special Victims Squad in Harlem for questioning, the sources said.

Flores allegedly told cops he forced his way into the victim’s East Seventh Street apartment at about 5 a.m. Monday and attacked her.

The arrest came hours after detectives released surveillance video of the suspect in the victim’s building.

The 19-second video shows a man believed to be Flores standing in a building hallway.

He is wearing jeans and a white hat, and has and what appears to be a bag slung over his shoulder.

A source said a person who works in the building where the video was taken saw the tape after it was released, recognized Flores and alerted cops.

Flores is charged with rape, burglary, criminal sex act and strangulation, police said.

He was awaiting arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court last night. He said nothing as he was taken from the Special Victims Squad in a red sweat shirt last night.

Sources said Flores has no previous criminal record.

The 22-year-old victim was taken to Beth Israel Hospital after the attack.

Neighbors reported hearing her screams the night of the rape.

“I thought I heard something, someone screaming, a female, just once,” a neighbor, Andy Reynolds, told The Post.
