The supreme court’s ruling: A chief in-justice?

The Issue: The Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision that upheld most of President Obama’s health-care law.

In 2009, Obama swore that the penalty for not purchasing health care wasn’t a tax, even though we all knew it was (“Supreme Court Sophistry,” Editorial, June 29).

Now the Supreme Court has ruled that it is a tax. So the land’s highest court has ruled that Obama is a liar.

If we re-elect Obama in November, then PT Barnum was right: There’s a sucker born every minute.

The Obamacare ruling is one of many unpopular decisions the Court has handed down.

In the wake of Dred Scott, Brown v. Board of Education and others, justices have weathered tremendous public pressure.

Yet despite dire warnings, no Supreme Court ruling has resulted in the downfall of the republic.

We’re still a nation of laws, not to mention the greatest nation on earth.

It’s time to take a collective breath.

The Supreme Court has ruled. There’s a new American normal now.

What is up with Chief Justice Roberts?

First, he agreed with Obama that Arizona’s illegal-immigration law was unconstitutional.

Now he sides with the leftists on the Court in deciding that the individual mandate is a tax.

Is he trying to apologize to Obama for messing up his inauguration?

The Court has upheld ObamaCare — so now it’s time for the president and Congress and all those with fancy health-care coverage on the cheap to get coverage on the law’s terms.

What’s good for the rest of us should be good enough for those who implemented the law.

The American Revolution was fought against an all-powerful king who thought he could tax at will.

Federalism is intended to limit the power of the central government and reserve all other powers to the states and people.

Somehow, we’ve lost our way, and the central government has become all-powerful.

To rein in government and change the mindset of the ruling class, we need term limits.

And we need elected officials who have held real jobs before joining the government, understand its limitations and recognize the citizens’ interests.

Since ObamaCare is still alive, here’s a way to implement it: With the same wave of the wand that granted illegal immigrants amnesty, Obama can decree post offices to be “hospitals,” and their staff to be “doctors.”

The medical-care-delivery conundrum will be solved, and the Post Office will be permanently funded.

The Supreme Court is supposed to be the last resort when the other branches of government fail, but Roberts ruled as he did simply to be liked.

Worrying more about his reputation than about the Constitution, he rewrote the health-care law and sided with the liberal justices.

In so doing, he undermined the Court’s purpose and power.

Justice Roberts is right: ObamaCare is a political issue, not a legal one. If we want to get rid of it, we have to vote Obama and the Democrats in Congress out of office and elect people who will vote to repeal it.

Roberts has lit a fire under many Americans who may not have been excited about Romney until now. Be careful what you wish for, Dems.

It’s time to stop calling it ObamaCare, a label that suggests the law is compassionate.

Going forward, let’s start calling it what it is: ObamaTax. That will remind everyone they’re about to suffer the largest tax hike in history.

Roberts came to the Court perceived as a strict constitutional constructionist. But it now appears we have the makings of the next Earl Warren.
