Globes surge to highest ratings in 10 years

All hail Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

The pair’s second year hosting the Golden Globe Awards drove the telecast to its best ratings in 10 years, averaging nearly 21 million viewers Sunday night on NBC.

That was up 6 percent from the 2013 Globes, which drew 19.7 million viewers, according to Nielsen. Compared to two years ago, when Ricky Gervais hosted, viewership improved 24 percent from 16.9 million viewers. It was also 10-year high in total viewers for the awards show since 26.8 million watched in 2004.

Fey and Poehler are already signed on to host the 2015 Golden Globes.

Major category winners Sunday night included “12 Years a Slave,” “American Hustle,” “Breaking Bad” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”
