Mayor Bloomberg’s net worth jumps $5B, making him 13th richest person on planet

Mayor Bloomberg’s net worth has skyrocketed in the last year and he’s now the 13th richest person on the planet, according to Forbes magazine.

The magazine estimated the mayor’s net worth at $27 billion, up $5 billion in a single year.

In 2012, Bloomberg was reportedly worth $22 billion and ranked 20th among the world’s most loaded billionaires.

Forbes attributed the mayor’s good fortune to the growing might of his financial information services empire, Bloomberg LP, which he founded in 1982 after being fired from Salomon Brothers.

The company recorded revenues last year of $7.9 billion, the magazine reported.

One insider said that since Bloomberg LP is privately held — the mayor owns 88 percent — the valuations may not be entirely on target.

“People think he could be worth a lot more,” said the source.

But bragging rights as the wealthiest New Yorker don’t go the mayor.

That title belongs to the Koch brothers, David and Charles, whose vast holdings were valued at $34 billion each.

For the fourth year in a row, Mexican telecom mogul Carlo Slim Helu and his family held the No. 1 spot on the rankings with a net worth put at $73 billion.
