WTC construction workers busted for selling pot: authorities

Hardhats have been getting sky-high while working at the World Trade Center site thanks to co-workers smuggling pot into the site in their lunch pails and peddling it, authorities said yesterday.

“You’d think they would be smart enough to just not conduct this business down there,” said Port Authority Inspector General Michael Nestor, whose agents ran the probe that netted three alleged dope-selling construction workers yesterday.

IG agents uncovered the illicit behavior as part of a wide investigation into everything from lunch-hourdrinking to the theft of construction supplies.

One undercover agent literally got a whiff that weed was being sold and used during work hours there about seven months ago.

“He smelled the aroma of marijuana by the [site’s] Porta-Potties and figured out who was smoking the grass,” Nestor said.

The three busted workers were Brian McDermott, 34, of Brooklyn, John Fama, 30, of Jersey City, and Cesar Rivera, 25, of The Bronx. All are facing five counts of drug sale and possession.

The men are laborers with Sorbara Construction, of Lynbrook, LI. The company had no comment yesterday.
