SI native killed in Indianapolis ambulance crash

A Staten Island native working as a paramedic in Indianapolis was killed in an early morning ambulance crash, authorities said.

Timothy McCormick and another EMT were driving through a downtown intersection near the Indiana State House when a 1997 Honda del Sol slammed into their ambulance, knocking it on its side and trapping both men inside the vehicle.

McCormick, 24, was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Fellow EMT Cody Medley, 22, remains in critical condition, according to a spokeswoman for the Indianapolis Police Department.

Cops said the ambulance was not on an emergency run at the time of the crash and had the right-of-way at the intersection.

The 21-year-old driver of the Honda was given a blood alcohol test and released pending further investigation, cops said.

Originally from Stapleton, McCormick graduated from Regis High School in Manhattan. He moved to Indianapolis in 2010 to become an EMT after graduating from St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.
