Terps shock No. 2 Devils

Seth Allen broke a tie by making two free throws with 2.8 seconds left, and Maryland stunned No. 2 Duke 83-81 last night in College Park, Md., to end a six-game skid against its bitter rival.

As the final horn sounded, thousands of fans from the sellout crowd charged onto the court to celebrate the Terrapins’ biggest win of the season.

The Terrapins (18-7, 6-6 ACC) did not trail after halftime but never could pull away from the weary Blue Devils (22-3, 9-3), who had a six-game winning streak end. Seth Curry scored 25 and Quinn Cook added 18 for Duke.

Providence 71, Notre Dame 54

In Providence, R.I., Kadeem Batts scored 20 points and Vincent Council had 11 assists to become Providence’s career leader, carrying the resurgent Friars (14-11, 6-7 Big East) over No. 21 Notre Dame (20-6, 8-5) for their fourth straight win.

Tennessee 88, Kentucky 58

In Knoxville, Tenn., Trae Golden had 24 points and eight assists as Tennessee (14-10, 6-6 SEC) rolled over No. 25 Kentucky (17-8, 8-4), giving the Volunteers their most lopsided win in the 216-game history of this series.

Indiana 83, Purdue 55

In Bloomington, Ind., Will Sheehey scored a career-high 22 points and set a school record by making all nine of his shots to lead No. 1 Indiana (23-3, 11-2 Big Ten) to a rout of Purdue (12-14, 5-8).

Gonzaga 71, San Francisco 61

In San Francisco, Kelly Olynyk had 26 points and nine rebounds to carry No. 5 Gonzaga (25-2, 12-0 WCC) past pesky San Francisco(11-15, 4-9), snapping a three-year losing streak at War Memorial Gymnasium.

Florida 83, Auburn 52

In Auburn, Ala., Mike Rosario scored a season-high 22 points, Kenny Boynton had 16 and No. 7 Florida (21-3, 11-1 SEC) routed Auburn (9-16, 3-9) while setting a season high with 15 3-pointers on 30 attempts.

Michigan St. 73, Nebraska 64

In Lincoln, Neb., Keith Appling scored 16 points to go over 1,000 for his career and Adreian Payne added 15 points and 14 rebounds as No. 8 Michigan State (22-4, 11-2 Big Ten) beat Nebraska (12-14, 3-10) to remain tied with No. 1 Indiana for first in the conference.

Kansas St. 81, Baylor 61

In Manhattan, Kan., Angel Rodriguez scored 22 points and Shane Southwell added 18 on six 3-pointers to lead No. 10 Kansas State (20-5, 9-3 Big 12) over Baylor (16-9, 7-5).

Marquette 79, Pittsburgh 69

In Milwaukee, Vander Blue scored 19 points to lead No. 18 Marquette (18-6, 9-3 Big East) over No. 16 Pittsburgh (20-6, 8-5) as the Golden Eagles moved into a first-place tie with Georgetown in the conference.

Okla. St. 84, Oklahoma 79 (OT)

In Stillwater, Okla., Marcus Smart scored 28 points, Le’Bryan Nash added a season-high 26 and No. 17 Oklahoma State (19-5, 9-3 Big 12) beat Oklahoma (16-8, 7-5) in overtime for its third straight down-to-the-wire win at home.

Memphis 71, Marshall 59

In Huntington, W.Va., Adonis Thomas scored a career-high 23 points to lead No. 22 Memphis (22-3, 11-0 Conference USA) over Marshall (11-15, 4-7) for the Tigers’ 16th straight victory.

Oregon 79, Wash. St. 77 (OT)

In Pullman, Wash., E.J. Singler scored 25 points and made two free throws with 3.8 seconds left, lifting No. 23 Oregon (21-5, 10-3 Pac-10) to an overtime win over slumping Washington State (11-15, 2-11) to hold on to first place in the conference.

Kansas 73, Texas 47

In Lawrence, Kan., Jeff Withey had 15 points and 11 rebounds while becoming the Big 12’s career blocked shots leader and No. 14 Kansas (21-4, 9-3 Big 12 walloped Texas (11-4, 3-9).

New Mexico 60, Boise St. 50

In Albuquerque, N.M., Cameron Bairstow had 16 points to lead No. 19 New Mexico (22-4, 9-2 Mountain West) over Boise State (16-8, 4-6).
