DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS, 2010

THE YEAR OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY, 1982

WAR OF THE WORLDS, 2005

Basic Instinct, 1992

Sunday, 3 p.m., Ch. 11

From the very naughty minds of director Paul Verhoeven and writer Joe Eszterhas comes a great film noir for the naughty-noir minded. Michael Douglas is a police detective with a troubled past who becomes entangled with sexually-obsessed novelist (Sharon Stone) while investigating the murder of her boyfriend, a former rock star (Bill Cable). The detective is convinced she’s the murderer, but can’t nail it — same can’t be said for his luck with her! This movie has the infamous scene in which Stone opens her legs and reveals her lady parts!

Dinner for Schmucks, 2010

Sunday, 12 a.m., Comedy Central

Adapted from the French flick “Le Diner de Cons,” this American version stars Steve Carell as the schmuck whom biz executive Paul Rudd invites to his boss’ dinner. The catch: Each guest must bring the most ridiculous person they can find for the others to ridicule. Of course the idiot teaches the others about compassion — and fun.

The Year of Living Dangerously, 1982

Tuesday, 4 p.m., TCM

Gritty tale of a young Aussie journalist (Mel Gibson) who becomes, er, attached to the British attaché (Sigourney Weaver) during the bloody 1965 Indonesia coup against President Sukarno’s regime. Incredibly different and very riveting.

War of the Worlds, 2005

Saturday, 10:30 p.m., TNT

Tom Cruise is the estranged father of a couple of kids, (including Dakota Fanning). When his ex drops the kids off for the weekend—wouldn’t you know it — aliens invade Earth. It’s then up to the not-great dad to try to save his kids and maybe the world. While it really has nothing to do with the original great B-movie, this is still a hell of an action flick. With Gene Barry (who was in the original). Also, catch New York’s own Roz Abrams in a cameo.
