Ex-AOL editor Cyndi Stivers joins Tina Brown’s company

Cyndi Stivers, who saw her job as editor-in-chief of AOL.com eliminated in the upheaval at the media company late last year — after only seven months in the position — has a new gig lined up with Tina Brown’s fledgling conference business.

Stivers, a past editor-in-chief and president of Time Out New York and short-lived Web editor of Entertainment Weekly, is joining Tina Brown Live Media and is charged with “leading the digital strategy,” according to a spokesman for Brown.

Brown’s big task will no doubt be trying to nail down boldfaced name speakers for her Women in the World Summit, slated for New York in early April.

The two-day event at Lincoln Center will be the litmus test on whether her plan to abandon the Daily Beast website — which she founded at Barry Diller’s IAC five years ago — in favor of the conference business can pay off.
