GOLF: Driscoll vows birdies for Boston

PGA Tour player James Driscoll has pledged $1,000 for each birdie he makes during his next two tournaments for those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings.

Driscoll grew up in Brookline, Mass., and lives in downtown Boston, two blocks from where the explosions took place.

Four days after countryman Adam Scott became the first Australian to win the Masters, Jason Day and Marc Leishman shot 4-under 67 and trailed leader Brian Davis by two shots after the first round of the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, S.C.

Suzann Pettersen shot a 3-under 69 ito reach 10-under to take the second-round lead in the LPGA Lotte Championship in Kapolei, Hawaii. Defending champion Ai Miyazato was a stroke back after a 68.

HOOPS: NBA will fine on flops

The NBA will fine players $5,000 for a first flopping offense during the playoffs.

A second offense will bring a $10,000 fine, which increases to $15,000 for a third and $30,000 for a fourth. A player could be suspended if he is ruled to have flopped five or more times.

Two ex-Nets coaches, Byron Scott and Lawrence Frank, were fired; Scott by the Cavaliers and Frank by the Pistons. In Philadelphia, 76ers coach Doug Collins announced his retirement.

Glenn Robinson III and Mitch McGary announced they are coming back to Michigan for their sophomore seasons.

ETC.: Dickey wins, but leaves early

In Toronto, R.A. Dickey threw six scoreless innings before leaving with soreness in his neck and back, Rajai Davis had two hits and the Blue Jays beat the White Sox 3-1.

Dickey allowed two hits, both singles. He walked one, struck out a season-high seven and lowered his ERA from 5.82 to 4.30.

Designated hitter David Ortiz is expected to return to the Red Sox lineup for the first time this season when they open a home series tonight against Kansas City.

Errol Mann, the kicker for the Raiders’ Super Bowl XI title team, has died. He was 71.
