Washington’s Maggie diss: Shameful, but no surprise

The Issue: The lack of top Obama administration officials at the funeral of Margaret Thatcher.

***

Margaret Thatcher fought for freedom, free markets and peace through strength (“Forgotten Lady,” Editorial, April 17).

She and Ronald Reagan fought for their beliefs and produced almost miraculous results in the face of fanatical resistance from the left.

Moreover, they succeeded in reversing the economic and foreign policy disasters that leftist ideas always produce.

These people were giants.

This is why President Obama and Sen. Bob Menendez just couldn’t control themselves in insulting this magnificent woman.

Her success highlights their failures. Treating her with respect would have highlighted their own failed policies.

The world has lost a true hero. Thatcher, like Reagan, viewed the world as a conservative. That means helping when needed, but letting people run their own lives.

Anyone who is against giving a helping hand is heartless. Anyone who advocates free handouts to one and all is brainless.

In America, millions receive some type of government handout, not even counting Medicare and Social Security.

Thatcher, Reagan and even Bill Clinton knew that was wrong.

Obama? Not so much.

Also, please explain to me why George W. Bush or President Obama couldn’t find the time to go to Thatcher’s funeral? It’s embarrassing and unforgivable.

Why is The Post shocked over what the president and Menendez are doing to the memory of Thatcher? I would expect nothing less from them.

She stood for everything they don’t. For them to honor her appropriately would be beneath them and an insult to their fellow liberals.

As much as Britain is appalled by who the president sent to her funeral, I’m sure they are appreciative that he sent two friends of hers.

They honored and respected her and know that their friend Ronnie is waiting for her.

Why didn’t Joe Biden attend the Iron Lady’s funeral? That is the most important function for a vice president.

I was moved by the editorial citing intentional delays by New Jersey’s own Menendez, chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on a resolution paying tribute to Thatcher for her contributions to Great Britain’s economic recovery in the ’80s.

There’s no comparing the seedy senator to the gracious lady when it comes to demeanor, style and elegance.

One would think the ethically challenged Menendez, who is currently under investigation by the farcical Senate Ethics Committee, would seek to maintain a lower profile these days.

Apparently, he just can’t help but make a fool of himself when it comes to representing our state’s interests.

The mainstream media, particularly the major networks, largely ignored the funeral services for Thatcher.

No one-hour specials were produced that I could find.

Do we have to wait for the demise of Jane Fonda to excite an interest from today’s pathetic media?

Thatcher was a major figure in the revival of the British economy. She, Reagan and Pope John Paul II helped bring Soviet communism to its knees.

She deserved better from the media. America itself deserves better from these excuses for journalists.
