Giants’ Nicks: Knee surgery ‘minor procedure’

Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks said Thursday the surgery he had on his knee following the season was “a little minor procedure’’ and he’s already running.

“I’m looking at the bigger picture right now,” Nicks said. “My goal is to be full-go by training camp.”

* Center David Baas recently underwent elbow surgery to remove bone spurs.

* RG Chris Snee said his recovery from hip surgery is progressing and he should be ready for training camp.

* When the Giants assembled for the first time this past Monday for their initial offseason workout, a ready-made theme for the 2013 season was unveiled.

GIANTS 2013 SCHEDULE

“They told us straight-up, no one has ever hosted the Super Bowl in the stadium they played in,’’ left tackle Will Beatty said. “That’s your goal.’’

Super Bowl XLVIII will be played on Feb. 2, 2014 at MetLife Stadium.

* Eli Manning said he was hoping the third Manning Bowl — this one Giants-Broncos now that big brother Peyton has changed teams — wouldn’t be the first game of the season.

“I don’t want to talk about it for the next four months, ’’ he said.

Eli, though, did want that game to be early in the season “to get it over with and put it all behind us.’’

He got both wishes as the Giants will play host to the Broncos in Week 2.

* GM Jerry Reese met last week with Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o, considered one of, if not the best inside linebacker in the draft but also the victim of that fake girlfriend catfishing hoax.

“It was a good conversation with him,’’ Reese said. “He’s a very nice young man. He did a good job while he was here.’’

* Reese let it be known this is the year of decision for third-year OL James Brewer.

“I see him competing for right tackle, guard, anywhere,’’ Reese said. “It’s time for him to get in there and play.’’

* Newly signed TE Brandon Myers on the difference between the Giants and his old team, the Raiders: “[The Raiders] haven’t won in a while and I think once you don’t win in a while you kind of lose that mentality,’’ Myers said.

* Reese said he expects Mathias Kiwanuka is about to make another position switch.

“From my view I think he will probably play more on the defensive line more than he played at linebacker in the past,’’ Reese said. “But that is Coach [Tom] Coughlin’s call.”

* Following Thursday’s workout, about 25 Giants traveled to conduct a football clinic in Newtown, Conn. Students from Sandy Hook Elementary School were among the kids participating in the clinic.
