More than 100 firefighters battle blaze at NYPD Police Academy construction site in Queens

Firefighters battled a blaze at the NYPD Police Academy construction site in Queens today, authorities said.

Workers were heating up materials to lay on the roof, when wind blew away the embers and caused a fire about 1:40 p.m. at the 28th Avenue site in College Point, according to an FDNY spokesman.

It took more than 100 firefighters an hour to extinguish the blaze, according to Deputy Chief Steve Kubler.

The site suffered mostly exterior damage.

No injuries were reported.
