First, Dennis Rodman became a diplomat to North Korea. Now, he’s an FBI informant. Or so he says.
While at a celebrity party in Florida, the ex-Chicago Bull and unofficial ambassador, whose nickname is “The Worm,” said he’s now tipping off the agency on matters related to dictator Kim Jong Un, and has been in contact with the FBI since his controversial February trip to Pyongyang.
“They wanted to know what went on and who’s really in charge in North Korea,” Rodman told the Miami Herald.
The Worm struck an unlikely friendship with Kim Jong Un while traveling in the impoverished country, watching the Harlem Globetrotters play and dining on sushi with the dictator.
In a bizarre scenario, Rodman became the most high-profile American to meet with Kim, a diehard basketball fan, since the baby-faced dictator took power in December 2011.
Rodman admitted that he’s “not a total idiot,” despite his profession of love for the despot, and knows “what Kim Jong Un is threatening to do regarding his military muscle.”
“I might be able to keep folks’ heads cool,” he said. “We all going to find a way to get along and keep peace. Peace and love is where it is at.”
“I hope it doesn’t happen, because America will take whatever actions to protect America and our allies,” he told the Herald.
“I do think, umm, you know, that we have to talk to people who want to cause us harm so hopefully they won’t,” added the eloquent Rodman. “I’ve been talking to folks for years who don’t get what I’m about but that’s cool, ’cause once they walk away they like me.”
Rodman said he plans to be back in North Korea on Aug. 1, despite high tensions running on the peninsula.
He’s promised that he intended to “just hang and have some fun” — but vowed to continue looking out for America’s interests abroad.
