INSIDE THE MATCHUPS

METS: Gee was boxed around for 10 hits and seven runs in three innings last week in Philadelphia. His lone career start at Coors Field was a solid seven-inning, four-run, seven-strikeout win. The candidates for the nightcap were right-hander Jeremy Hefner (0-2, 6.00 ERA) and lefty Aaron Laffey (0-0, 5.06).

ROCKIES: Nicasio, a big 26-year-old from the Dominican Republic, struggled with his command last outing in San Francisco, allowing five walks and four runs in five innings of a no-decision. He has a 1.45 career WHIP and has never faced the Mets. Francis, 32, did not escape the second inning in his last start against the Giants, erasing the good vibes of a strong opening start. The Mets are batting .248 vs. lefties.

STAT SO?

METS: John Buck has 19 RBIs, seven shy of the franchise April record of 26 held by Jeff Kent (1994).

ROCKIES: Colorado is 6-0 vs. the Padres, outscoring them 38-17 in a pair of sweeps, and 2-4 vs. other opponents, getting outscored 35-27.
