Quinn’s sub-par subway plan

The Issue: Christine Quinn’s recent suggestion about New York City handling its own transportation needs.

What Nicole Gelinas, Christine Quinn and almost everyone else do not understand, and probably never will, is that the Transport Workers Union controls and runs the MTA (“The Q(uinn) Train,” Nicole Gelinas, PostOpinion, April 15).

It has been soaking the public for decades. As long as the TWU dictatorship is still fleecing the public, New Yorkers will never move into the 21st century.

Quinn’s plan for the MTA demonstrates that she lacks the entrepreneurial vision to serve as mayor. We need a civic innovator with bold managers, eager to break up public monopolies like the MTA.

The MTA is a state agency, with New York City holding only four of 14 votes on the board. Therefore, we have little influence.

Quinn’s plans mean nothing unless Gov. Cuomo agrees to reorganize the MTA to allow the city to manage its own affairs.

If she fails to see that and fails to take on the governor, then she is unfit to be mayor.
